UNDIP, Semarang (Oct. 14) — Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) continues to expand its strategic contribution as a dignified and impactful university, not only in regional development but also on the international stage. This commitment was realized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNDIP and Singapore-based biotechnology company Celvera Biosystems PTE LTD on Wednesday (Oct. 14) at the Rector’s Meeting Room, Widya Puraya Building, 2nd Floor, UNDIP. The strategic collaboration focuses on a joint research project entitled “Aquaculture Research Project: Blue Java.”
The collaboration was initiated as a concrete step to address the global environmental crisis, particularly waste management and aquatic ecosystem challenges. Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Celvera Biosystems PTE LTD, Dina K. Dinata, said that marine waste and aquatic ecosystem degradation are urgent issues requiring immediate action. She noted that Universitas Diponegoro possesses strong environmental research potential that should be brought to the public sphere.
Key Highlights and Strategic Developments
“UNDIP already has a strong green campus foundation and outstanding environmental research. The next crucial step is to consistently share these concrete actions on social media. Through an effective storytelling strategy, digital publication can expand its reach and influence while serving as an educational platform for the wider community,” said Dina.
In response, Rector of Universitas Diponegoro, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., affirmed that the institution’s commitment to environmental governance has been realized through concrete actions with direct impact.
Sustainable Impacts and Global Collaboration
“We are a zero-waste campus that no longer sends waste to the Semarang City landfill. All organic waste is processed into compost, so 100 percent of waste is properly managed as a concrete step toward our GreenMetric targets,” said Prof. Suharnomo.
Beyond focusing on the internal campus environment, he also highlighted the university’s technological innovation in disaster management at the national level. “We have been entrusted by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to provide treatment facilities in disaster-affected areas. Currently, these facilities are operating at around 20 locations, including the Pantura region and Flores,” he emphasized.
Recognizing the significant positive impact of various ongoing disaster management projects, the “Blue Java” collaboration will serve as momentum for Universitas Diponegoro to expand its educational outreach. Through the development of a dedicated publication media channel, UNDIP is committed to disseminating the university’s concrete actions in responding to the environmental crisis. More than just an information platform, this strategic initiative is expected to inspire the younger generation to contribute research, create innovations, and take an active role in preserving the planet.
